Connections “Sending” Email
All Connections does is launch the Outlook (or primary email program) "new email" on the user's desktop and puts the user recipient's email address in the Outlook To: field. Some users cannot receive email from outside the company and may have to set special rules. Connections is not doing the emailing – it is just launching the "new email" option in the user's own e-mail program. If they don't use Outlook as their email application, (example: use Groupwise instead), it will launch email within Groupwise as well, with the recipient's email in the "To:" field.
Basically, it is just a link that uses the mailto: type, just like links to web pages use the http: or https: type
