Update to Connections Online 4.0
April 22, 2010
Connections can now be accessed and edited with Outlook: Technical requirements – you must have the latest Internet Explorer installed on your machine (IE7 or IE8 – it will not work with Firefox) and Office 2003 or 2007. On your main Outlook view, open “Shortcuts” and “restore window down” – make the Outlook window small, open Internet Explorer and open URL http://my.connectionsonline.net enter your login information and check the “Remember Me” check box. “Restore down” the IE page, click to drag the URL to the Outlook Shortcuts Group list. Rename as appropriate. Here is a short movie showing how this is done. http://www.connectionsonline.net/docs/outlook.mht (Click the “next” button below the word “steps” to view the process for adding Connections as a shortcut to Outlook). Once this is added, you will be able to click Shortcuts in Outlook, click the Connections shortcuts, and edit Connections within Outlook.
Main page header icons re-organized: Username and sign-out links have been moved to the bottom of the page. Site Admin icon and Search icons will be found to the immediate right of the My Connection Tab.
New "Advanced Analytics" link can be found in the Organization/Department reports module. This link opens the advanced analytics product description. If you want more information, please see the article http://www.connectionsonline.net/News/Latest/COL-Partners-fo r-Advanced-Analytics.aspx?id=412
For sites where analytics are turned on, the link will change to point to the analytics site. For more information, please contact Dave Freeman at David.Freeman@connectionsonline.net
Old reports were removed, and reports that were marked (new) are no longer marked with (new). Printing reports in PDF: If you want to print to a PDF file format, please investigate the numerous free downloads – I personally use one found at www.cutepdf.com (this is not an “official” recommendation).
The Browse button for Related Links was removed for a few days last week. The Browse button was added back into the application April 25. However, for security reasons, the latest web browsers do not allow for properly functioning “browse” buttons. For security reasons, please move files accessed as a “Related Link” to a web folder. Here is more information on creating web folders for use with Related Links, click our forum link for further instructions: http://forum.connectionsonline.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=276&a mp;a mp;PN=1

The Connections Online Logo (found in the upper right corner of the application and reports) can be customized per site with the customer’s logo. With this update, we have the ability to replace the Connections Online logo on all of the main pages near the tabs and on all of the reports. These can be different logos to allow them to look better with the tan background of the main pages and the white background of the reports. From a technical perspective, a requirement is for the logo to be in an Adobe EPS or other vectorized format. We can then take that logo and make versions of it that work for both spots in Connections Online. The company logo should be 280px wide by 80px tall or less. Contact Linda Schmidt – lschmidt@cardwellgroup.com for more information. There is a minimal fee of $250 for this service.
Default Security Settings: We have been asked about the typical “default security settings” for Connections. This link will take you to a document showing screen shots of the “default” settings for the Default Security Settings module on the Site Administration page click here
Printing Reports with IE8: A quick tip, if you are getting extra blank pages when printing the Connection Reports with IE8 - When the report is open, next to the address line at the top of the page, there is an icon that looks like a ripped piece of paper that is called “compatibility mode” – click that and then print the report – it should print fine.
Calendar dates rolling forward: You can click a date on the calendar and the calendar will refresh to show items due rolling forward 30 days from that selected date. Default calendar shows 30 days rolling forward from “today’s date”
Known issue in Internet Explorer: for any copy/paste in a web editor, right click menu to copy/paste is not available (description, comments, etc.). Users will have to use ctrl x (cut) ctrl c (copy) or ctrl v (paste)
Fixes
My Connection: You can now add modules and they won’t disappear until you reset the page.
Remember Me is now working properly. When you login, click the “Remember Me” check box, login, and bookmark the page. Connections will now open without forcing you to login.
Moving metrics or projects up or down the list now works by selecting multiple items. The group of items will move up or down, or in or out, or delete. Project tasks already have this functionality.
Organization Connection Report now correctly orders projects by status.
Related Links not showing properly in some edit windows when a comment has been added has been fixed.
Calendar tasks showing under the calendar in the My Connection Tab is now working properly
