In our last update, we included a new filter on the projects list for every organization or department connection page. In an effort to speed up a few sites who had hundreds of completed projects, the list defaulted to only including completed projects if they were completed in the last 30 days. While that helped a handful of sites, many other sites didn't like the 30-day cut-off, so we immediately worked on finding a better solution. This update includes the first part of that solution.
New Site-Wide Project Completed Filter
The new ProjectCompletedFilter setting can be set for your entire site from the admin page under Site Settings. We have set this number to 30 by default, but it can be changed to:
- Any negative number to turn it off entirely and always show all completed projects
- Zero to hide all completed projects
- Any whole number greater than zero to set the number of days of completed projects to show (like 60 days, 365 days, etc.)
Here, you will also notice a new TaskCompletedFilter setting. Currently, all completed tasks disappear after 30 days. In the next couple of weeks, we will also be updating that built-in, fixed number to instead use this setting.
New User-Specific Project Completed Filter
(Found in the Projects module on every Organization or Department Connection)
The filter button that was added with last month's update has been replaced with a new filter button. This one now allows you to chose which project status groups you would like to see, along with how to filter the completed projects. These filter settings affect both the projects listed on this page and the projects listed in the Organization or Department Connection Report. By default, you are shown all status groups and shown completed projects based on the site-wide setting mentioned earlier. Unlike the previous filter button, these settings are saved, so refreshing the page, logging out and back in, or even logging in from a different machine will continue to use your previous selections.
Future Updates
Showing Completed Tasks
Along with the site-level TaskCompletedFilter, a new filter button will also be added to your task lists in the next couple of weeks to allow you to show your old, completed tasks. Currently, once tasks have been completed for more than 30 days, they just disappear from view but they are still in the system. This new feature will allow you to change that number just like the project one.
We are also looking into a new report that would list all completed items for a specific page (Organization, Department, Project, or Individual) and date span.
Filter Settings Added to User Settings Page
The new user-specific project and task filter settings will also be displayed on your user settings page (https://col.connectionsonline.net/user/YOURUSERNAME), so you will be able to set them from the project and task modules or all on one page.
Activity Log Reports
The new activity log reports are already showing up, but some of the functionality didn't make it into the update over the weekend, so there will be another small update tonight to finish them up. We will make an announcement tomorrow to go over all of features of the new reports.
