What's new in Connections v5?
It is our goal to have everyone moved over to v5 of Connections by the end of 2025. We have already migrated some users to v5 this year, which has allowed us to identify and address potential hiccups in the data migration process. Existing users of Connections usually don't have many issues moving over to the new version. You can send in a request to support@connectionsonline.net to get the process started if we have not already reached out to you. The entire process usually takes between 2 and 4 weeks depending on any issues that arise during the testing process to verify your data looks correct.
Below is an overview of our usual migration process, but we can work with you so that you feel comfortable making the switch.
-
Pre-migration Meeting/Questionnaire: Some info that we will need for the migration so we can set up a reasonable schedule for the process and translate some ambiguous data.
- Test Migration Date: After this weekend Connections v4 will still be useable, you can test and confirm your data. Just let us know when you'd like to start testing your data in the new version.
- Final Migration Date: On this date v4 will be shut off for your organization and you will be given access to v5.
- Time Zone: This is the primary time zone for your organization. All dates and times will be set to this during the migration process.
- Main Organization: v4 allowed multiple organizations. Going forward, one of these will become your main organization and the others will be changed to departments. In most cases this is apparent which is your main organization but this is just a precaution.
- PM Core Values: This is only to v4 Clients that use the PM feature. It is just a question if you want to transfer your PM Core Values instead of the Core Value box on their organization. The old way was one text box, but now we have a space for each value.
- Initial/Testing Migration (1-2 weeks usually): We begin by migrating your data from v4 to v5. Once this is completed, you'll have a week or two to test and verify that everything has been migrated correctly and that there are no issues with the data. Once you let us know that the data looks okay we can move on to step 3 the next weekend. During this period you will still be able to use your current version of Connections and any changes you make in the initial/test migration will not persist. So feel free to try things out without worry. Please note that a password reset will be required upon first login, as your passwords in Connections are encrypted and can't be moved over to the new system.
- Final Migration (weekend): After the testing phase, we perform a final migration to include any changes you had made during the initial migration. This is typically scheduled for a weekend to minimize any disruption to your operations, where your v4 Connections is disabled for you so we don't have multiple versions of things making it over. Your data on v4 will still be accessible to us if needed later, but access to v4 remains disabled.
- Accessing v5 (after previous weekend): Once the v5 instance is live, you will be able to go to https://app.connectionsonline.net/ to log in instead of the previous URL. Again in this instance you will need to use the password reset feature to log in for the first time.
