Capability to add a profile picture on Individual's / Dept Page

It looks like there is already a slot for this type of thing (avatar box on each page). It would help relate that there is a person behind this data and it would keep folks from having to look up who this person is in our intranet directory.

Keen eye! Yes, the square icon box on each page was added originally with the goal to replace it with custom photos/images for specific pages. I have played with the idea of using Gravatars to handle the avatars for individuals. For this to work, you would just go to Gravatar.com, sign up, and set a photo to use for your work email address (make sure it is marked as G-rated).
The idea seemed to work well for individuals, but it didn't translate well to projects, departments, or organizations, since each of those things don't normally have email addresses. Since I was looking for something that would work for all of the page types, I held off implementing the Gravatar functionality.
The downside to this system is that each person is responsible for his or her own avatar image, and they cannot be added en masse by HR. The upside is that we don't need to do much to Connections Online to get it to work.
Thoughts? Should we go ahead and...
- add Gravatar functionality for individuals,
- add a custom avatar upload for individuals that is handled entirely inside of Connections Online,
or - add a custom avatar upload for individuals, departments, and organizations.
