Setting a clear work strategy
Your strategy defines where you want to go with your company, department or team. It’s the destination. Successful strategies engage people by delivering clear objectives that facilitate understanding of the work to be done.
Your strategic objectives can be short and concise or a long paragraph.
The following are some questions you might use to fill in your strategy:
What is your Business Model? (How do you acquire and retain customers? How do you grow the business?)
• Describe the sweet spot of your customer space – most of your customers fall into a certain category (demographic, household $, etc. Who is your core customer?)
• Why do people do business with you? What is the value you provide that make people want to come to your door? What are the top 5 reasons why they do business with you and not someone else? Why do they stay? Take those two lists and combine and narrow down.
• Where does the money come from? How do you make money? What are the core drivers that make up your revenue engine? Rank order those and put a percentage on each driver.
• What are our dollar priorities to reduce cost or increase revenue over the next 12 months? What are the major things to do to increase revenue or reduce costs? Make sure you have a shorter list, more people pay attention to it.
