Users Roundtable – June 17-18, 2010
This year is an especially important session. We have added two SIGNIFICANT new capabilities to Connections.
One is Web Services; the other is a robust Business Intelligence platform. Once you see these you will want them. They will allow you to take Connections to a higher level from a communications standpoint. They will add significant horsepower to your strategy implementation.
We will have experts on-site to walk you and your people through the applications and possibilities. We will also provide time for hands-on experimentation. The combined experience is something we cannot do over the web. This is truly a unique experience. Please click here for our Users Roundtable Agenda Highlights.
May’s Educational Webinar – Leverage Advanced Analytics for Greater Insight and Better Performance with Dave Freeman
Today, businesses are more and more desperate for better insight with the ever-increasing amounts of available data. Theoretically, the better your insight into this data, the better your business will perform. The challenge is for an IT department to keep up with the onslaught. Is there an easy way to manage and leverage this information? Yes.
If you attended last month’s free “Connect with Leaders” webinar, you’ll know that Cardwell (www.connectionsonline.net) has launched a new data analyzing technology called Connections Online PRO. Connections Online PRO takes the software’s original, award-winning communications piece and couples it with innovative analytics technology from new partner Birst (www.birst.com). This technology combination provides an organization with increased clarity in regards to enhancing business performance.
Connections Online PRO allows your business to accomplish more without depending on overloaded IT departments for help. In addition, Connections Online’s PRO version is a SaaS model, so you buy only what you need.
There was a quick demo of the PRO version, displaying how the automated business intelligence is faster and more affordable. From here the data transfers to an OLAP tool (online analytic processing), then gets displayed in an easy-to-read dashboard for a quick overview of an organization’s performance.
A bank or credit union, for instance, can view particular categories for performance readings:
· Products
· Members/Customers
· Employees
· Transactions
· Transaction details
This data can be broken down into more detail in location and time:
· Region
· Branch
· Year
· Quarter
· Type
· Category
So why is there business intelligence in Connections Online now? Today’s business models are constantly changing, which require companies to develop new ways to make money. In addition, businesses have dropped expenses to bare bones due to the sagging economy. Now they’re asking themselves “what’s left for profitability?” As a result, businesses are doing more with less these days, so they need to analyze their data to make smart decisions – equaling better insight.
Retrieving and applying insight is harder than ever today. Businesses are changing. Data are exploding. Budgets are shrinking. Connections Online PRO addresses these issues, allowing you to better understand your business for enhanced performance.

4.0 Tips of the Month
Using Connections with Outlook Technical requirements – you must have the latest Internet Explorer installed on your machine (IE7 or IE8 – it will not work with Firefox) and Office 2003 or 2007. On your main Outlook view, open “Shortcuts” and “restore window down” – make the Outlook window small, open Internet Explorer and open URL http://my.connectionsonline.net Enter your login information and check the “Remember Me” check box. “Restore down” the IE page, click to drag the URL to the Outlook Shortcuts Group list. Rename as appropriate. Here is a short movie showing how this is done. http://www.connectionsonline.net/docs/outlook.mht (Click the “next” button below the word “steps” to view the process for adding Connections as a shortcut to Outlook). Once this is added, you will be able to click Shortcuts in Outlook, click the Connections shortcuts, and edit Connections within Outlook.
Printing issues with IE8 - A quick tip, if you are getting extra blank pages when printing the Connection Reports with IE8 - When the report is open, next to the address line at the top of the page, there is an icon that looks like a ripped piece of paper that is called “compatibility mode” – click that and then print the report – it should print fine.
Forgot your password:
Things that will make it look like it doesn't work:
· Invalid e-mail address in system for user
· User's mail system rejects e-mails from auto@col4.com
· User attempts to use the password after it expires (one hour window)
· User types in wrong password because password is complex
· User has more than one account tied to their e-mail address and was confused by multiple passwords sent (one for each account)
Personal Tasks: You can currently select someone other than yourself to “own” a personal task, but that task will not show on the other person’s Personal Task List. If you are a manager and have a list of monthly, recurring “to do’s”, it is recommended that you create a Department Project that is entitled “Month Name (June) Operations To Do’s” – create your list of tasks with the owners’ names (which will show on their Project task list) – then when June is over, make a copy of the project (including copying tasks, owners, etc.) and call it July Operations To Do’s. Change the status of the June project to “completed” and you are good to go for the month of July.
Creating a Word document using copy and paste from specific modules (i.e. Scorecards, Projects, and Project tasks): Click at the beginning of the first column name on the module, highlight the entire section and paste to a Word document. The copied selection from the Connections module will display in Word as a table. Simply highlight the columns and rows you don’t want and delete (or add color, etc.) Please note, the only column that doesn’t delete is the column with the check box. In the Tasks module, before you copy and paste, check the tasks that are completed and those checked tasks will show as checked on the Word document – the completed check mark does not copy on the task list.)
Security Option: We are able to create security so people from outside the organization’s site can participate in org or department projects without those people seeing the rest of your site. If you are interested in learning more about this, please email lschmidt@connectionsonline.net and we will contact you to discuss your security needs.
Issues that came up for the month of May that have been fixed: spell check not working properly, View Another edit window: list is now scrolling so you could see the “bottom of the list”.
