MS Project Connector is Ready and in Production: This allows a Project Manager to create the project in MS Project and sync the project to Connections Online using an MS Project connector that is installed on the client machine (user’s machine). Once the project is created in COL, or MS Project, the project can sync with either COL or MS Project. The project can be updated in MS Project or in COL and using the functionality of the MS Project connector, the project can sync back and forth between both applications. The project team members can use the COL interface to update the project tasks, etc. The Project Manager can then pull the project into MS Project and update their input using MS Project, then re-sync, and all updates will be reflected in both “directions” – from MS Project using the connector and also from COL.
4.0 Tips of the Month
Control Where Tabs Open To
Go to View Another and select the page you want the “tab” to open, then click the “star” icon next to the tab name, it will go to that page whenever the tab itself is clicked.
Archiving
When you archive your site, it will archive all metrics and all projects. Once the site is archived, look at the “completed projects” and decide if there are some projects that you want to make templates (where you can copy them as a project in the future) – the reason to do this is that once a project has been archived, then deleted off the main site (it is still seen in archive) you can’t copy it from archive. So, here are suggested steps:
· Archive site from site page
· Look at all the projects from each org/dept and decide if you need to make templates of any of them
· If you do, make a “templates” status on the site page
· Copy the project you want as a template to “templates” status
· Delete copy of the project off the completed status category
Security - Propagating
There are three options on how this operation will behave when you click on propagate security:
Option One: Overwrite. Default security will overwrite all existing security.
Option Two: Add and Update. New security groups and users will be added, and existing settings will be updated to default security settings. Existing settings that are not in the propagation will be unaffected.
Option Three: Add New Only. New security groups and users will be added, but existing settings will remain the same.
Option Two will add new items and update any overlapping items. Option three just adds new items and doesn't update overlapping items. Here's an example:
Current:
User A - Read, Update, Delete
User B - Read, Delete
New Security to Propagate:
User A - Read
User C - Read, Update
After Option 1: (overwritten)
User A - Read
User C - Read, Update
After Option 2:
User A - Read (this is overwritten)
User B - Read, Delete (this is untouched)
User C - Read, Update (this is added)
After propagating with option 3, you would have:
User A - Read, Update, Delete (this is NOT overwritten)
User B - Read, Delete (this is untouched)
User C- Read, Update (this is added)
Bug Reports
When entering a bug report, be sure to check “Watch this Bug”. This will enable us to ask questions about your bug and also for you to follow the results of your bug report.
If you are not sure how to submit a bug:
When on your Connections Online site, at the bottom of the page, click on "Report a Bug". If you are already logged into 16bugs.com, it will take you right to the report a bug site to submit a bug. If not, there is a login box. It is a separate login from your Connections Online account. You are currently required to create an account on the bug site to submit a bug. This allows you to return to the bug site to add comments and edit the bug if needed.
If you do not log in to the bug site, it does appear to just show the same page whenever you attempt to submit a bug, but it will not actually be submitted. You have to create an account and log in to submit a bug.
