Connections Online Users Roundtable June 21st to 22nd
Starts with a Kick-Off Dinner on Wednesday evening, June 20th.
Deadline is approaching to register for this year's Users Roundtable which will be held in Las Vegas at The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. We have on hold a block of rooms for the event. The rooms will be $80 per night plus taxes (this includes the $20 per day resort fee). Our deadline for rooms has been extended to May 18.
We hope you will be able to join us. Please make your reservation today with Linda Schmidt lschmidt@cardwellgroup.com or 800-395-1410.
The topics presented by our User Community this year are focused on “connecting employees” to Connections, and sustaining the process through all the changes impacting organizations today. We will also focus on our new version 4.1 that has been in beta for the last few months, as well as developing reports that will better serve users going forward. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Linda Schmidt at her email above for the complete agenda.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
COL Web Services Just a reminder about Connections Online Web Services: COWS gives IT departments and third-party developers direct access to all of the information stored in Connections Online. It supports the four standard CRUD functions: Create, Read, Update, and Delete. If a user has access to do something to the information in Connections Online, the same access is given through COWS. Check it out: http://cows.Connectionsonline.net
This opens up the user interface for Connections Online to be anything you can imagine (and develop). This could mean new reports, dashboards, quick entry screens, or even a full-featured replacement for the default Connections Online user interface.
What is the Metric Roll-Ups and Linking Feature?
Overview:
An example: Your Teller or Member Service Rep has a goal of ## new accounts monthly. On their People page scorecard modules, they create a New account metric and enter the number of new accounts every month. The Branch Manager has a metric on the Branch scorecard called “New Accounts Monthly” and under this metric, there is the list of 3 MSRs that have their metrics “linked” to their Branch scorecard. Every time the MSRs change their numbers, the changes are automatically recorded as new MSR numbers on the Branch scorecard, and these are totaled on the Branch Scorecard. The VP of Branch Operations can then link to all Branch totals for new account monthly metrics, and so on. The numbers are used multiple times in multiple places, but only entered once – by the MSR. Please sign up for our Advanced Features Webinar to see how easily this is to set up and work for you! Contact Karla Norwood at knorwood@cardwellgroup.com if you are interested in adding this feature.
Outlook Connector
Please contact us if you want to try the latest version of the Outlook Connector. Please email lschmidt@cardwellgroup.com or call 1-800-395-1410 for more information.
Connections Online Releases Version 4.1 This Beta version is an update to the User Interface; it did not change the database structure/functionality. Therefore, you are able to use User Interface 4.0 or 4.1 simultaneously.
We hosted a webinar showing off our new version. You are welcome to watch it and even give the beta version a try – here is the link to the document and recording. http://link.connectionsonline.net/COLV4.1
Tips of the Month
Related Links on Local Servers If your related links that are connected to your local network suddenly stop working, this could be due to updates to Windows or to Internet Explorer. All web browsers are removing or already have removed the ability to open local or network-shared files by using a web link. Internet Explorer is one of the last browsers to have supported that feature for backwards compatibility, but it will eventually drop support for links to local files altogether. So, even if you can find a way to open local files through IE by turning off some security setting now, this really should be seen as a wake-up call to move those files to a more web-friendly location.
The web-friendly options for file storage include: a local web server (possibly using SharePoint or another file management system), a local server running a shared Web Folder, or a hosted file storage solution like Dropbox, box.net, Amazon S3, Google Docs, etc. Many of the online file storage companies are former SAS70 and now SSAE 16 compliant systems and use the latest AES encryption, so they are in most cases just as secure as local file storage.
Our experience with IT departments trying to set up local web-friendly file storage has led us to highly recommend the online storage options. It *is* possible to use any of those online options with Connections Online today, but we have plans to simplify the integration in the future.
While we do not recommend local files any longer, you can still use Internet Explorer to use local file links, but you will have to lower the security settings to do so:
- In Internet Options, open the Security tab
- Select the Trusted Sites zone
- Press the Sites button to open the list of trusted sites
- If https://my.connectionsonline.net is not listed, add it here
- Close the site list and return to the Security tab in Internet Options
- Set the security level to Low
- The checkbox for Enable Protected Mode should not be checked
Once this is set, Internet Explorer should open local files, at least for now.
