Beta Version Updates - Individual Basic Role Dialogs
Please see the announcement below from Bryan Siders, our Connections Online Developer. Through our Connections Online Forum, we announced that our developers are “combining” the comments from 4.1 into the new structure which incorporates 4.1 and 4.0 dialogs.
When you open your individual dialog now, you will have a Basic Role Beta box and the comments from past beta comments will be in that beta box. If you want to “reuse” those comments for the new dialog, you will have to copy and paste each basic role comment from the beta box into the new dialog fields (to edit the new basic roles, click on any of the basic roles and a comment field comes up instead of one box for all basic role comments.)
If you enter a comment this month in the new format in the Basic Role Dialog, you will be able to use it (copy it to) next month in this new format. When editing the basic role, just click on the name of the basic role and the edit box will open – complete the edit and update.
For the Individual Dialog Report, under the Options section (upper right of the report), uncheck the Beta Basic Role and you won’t have two Basic Roles show up.
I realize this is a little confusing but we hope to have this solved shortly. We just didn’t want people to NOT have past 4.1 basic roles comments available in this updated functionality to the Basic Role Dialogs.

Note From Bryan Siders
In Connections Online 4.0, the way that Basic Role notes were added to the Individual Dialog was very time-intensive and very easy to mess up. Hours could be spent entering a note only to forget to click the little green check icon to save it. It didn't really work like any other part of the site, so it was confusing and caused many support tickets.
On the new beta site, we attempted to fix this by combining all of the Basic Role notes into one large field. This alleviated the issue with the green checks and made entering the notes easy, in a single entry box. Unfortunately, this caused two other problems. First, it meant that the old dialogs had notes in multiple fields and the new dialogs had notes in a separate, single field, so we would have to figure out a way to import all of the old notes into the new field. Secondly, this meant that anyone using the 4.0 site would not be able to see the new notes, and we could not figure out a way to automatically parse the single note back into multiple notes for the old site.
So we had to scrap the idea of a single Basic Role Notes field in the beta and go back to the separate fields. I believe we were able to make the separate fields much easier to use. However, this means that any notes that were entered in the single notes box on the beta site up until now will have to be manually moved back into the separate fields. To help with this transition, we have added a box on the dialog that shows everything that was entered in the beta notes box so the information can be cut-and-pasted into the separate boxes. We will be going through the notes and transitioning them ourselves, but that is going to take a lot of time.
I'm sorry for all the trouble this is going to cause for our beta testers. Hopefully, we will be able to move past this quickly and graduate out of beta very soon!
Beta Version Updates - Linking Projects
We have a function that is brand new and hasn’t been officially announced yet, but you can now link projects like you link metrics (available in 4.1 only). Open the org/dept page on which you want to show the linked project, i.e. you created a project on the org page but want to “link” to it on the IT department page. Open the IT department page and click the plus/add button on the project module and select “link project”. An edit box will open and you can then select the project that you want to link to/show on the department tab. While you are still in the edit box, you can change the name (for example, “linked from X dept/org”) – this works like Windows Explorer name change procedure. Then click the link button and it will be on the list with a “green arrow” next to it showing that it is a linked project.
