Announcement!
Connections Online Version 4.1 - Our new version 4.1 is out of beta and in full production. You can access the new site with this link: https://col.connectionsonline.net
Please have your beta users use the new URL (link above). The beta version will still be accessible but will be used by our development team to test upcoming features. The 4.1 (COL URL) will use your production database (so you may have users on col.connectionsonline.net, beta.connectionsonline.net, and my.connectionsonline.net). We would like all users to use the URL https://col.connectionsonline.net and if you need (or want) to use 4.0 for any reason, you will see a link at the bottom of the page to open 4.0. We invite you to attend a scheduled 4.1 webinar (see webinar registration below). You will see that we have improved the efficiency of entering data by reducing the number of clicks to create and update the information in Connections as well as other improvements.
Note: Although we would like people to start using Version 4.1, Version 4.0 will still be available for use also. There is a link at the bottom of the Connections page where you can switch to the other version.
Version 4.1 Quick Reference Guide
We have created a Quick Reference Guide for Version 4.1 (col.connectionsonline.net). This guide will explain the new functionality and help orient you and your Users to the new version. Use this link for the Quick Reference Guide for Version 4.1 http://link.connectionsonline.net/Version-4-1-QRG-NU.doc
Undelete Button (version 4.1)
Undelete Symbol: Click the Undelete Symbol, found at the upper right of the page, and you will open an “Undelete” page. Deleted items will be listed on this page. Roll over the item you want to undelete and click on the undelete symbol to the left of the item. Navigate back to the original page and the item will be restored.
Remember Me Function (versions 4.0 and 4.1)
The “Remember Me” function has been turned off temporarily because it was causing some login problems. We believe these issues have been resolved but are finalizing our testing. This feature will be turned on again in the near future.
Tips for the Month
What does the speed number mean at the bottom of the COL page?
The number at the bottom of any COL page that loads on the computer shows how long it took the server to make the web page, from the time it receives the request to the time it sends back the final bit of the response. It does not include the time it took the request to go from the client machine to the server, the time it took the response to travel from the server back to the client machine, or the time it took for the client machine to render the web page. The travel time is dependent on the Internet connection between the client and the server: number of hops, response time between each hop, max upload and download throughput, etc. The render time on the client side takes at least two times as long in IE8 than in any other browser that we support, for example.
When the number on the page is large, it is something we can work on speeding up. When the number on the page is small, almost all other speed issues are out of our control. Large is anything over 3000ms.
Export an Organization or Department Tab Report to Excel or Word
We have a report that you may not be currently using. This report allows you to export the metrics module as well as the project list module into a Word or Excel report. On the Org/Department page, add a related link called Excel and Word Report. While creating this related link, copy and paste the following URL into the URL field https://report.connectionsonline.net/Org3.2.aspx?sid=#SESSION#&s=#SITE#
(It must be a related link IN your Connections for this link to work.)
Save this new related link. When you click on this related link it will open a report that allows you to export selections to Excel or Word by choosing the appropriate button.
Report of Single Metrics
If you want to have a detailed report of each metric easily opened without having to open each metric’s edit window, follow these instructions. Open any metric edit window of any Org or Dept tab. Click the metric report on the report module on the right column in 4.1. Click the print icon and a detailed report of just that metric appears. You can easily navigate to other detailed metric reports by using the navigation fields at the top of the report. To view this metric/metric report, copy the URL of this individual metric report, close the metric edit window, Add a Related Link called “Single Metric Name” or “Single Metric Name Metric Report” and paste the copy of the individual metric URL you copied from the metric report into the URL field, then save the Related Link (you will now have two views for this single metric under Related Links).
IE8 / IE9 – Printing Reports in Color
Trying to save a Connections Report as a .pdf and not getting the color? To allow color background printing, click on the dropdown next to the printer icon and check the box for background printing.
