Section One: Announcements and Tips
Connections Online Users Roundtable
September 23-24 in Las Vegas
Starts with a Kick-Off Dinner on Sunday evening, September 22nd
We are excited to announce that this year's Users Roundtable will be held in Las Vegas. Notice the date is in September this year instead of June. We hope you will be able to join us. Please let Linda Schmidt know if you are tentatively planning to attend so we can get an idea on the number to plan for lschmidt@cardwellgroup.com or 800-395-1410.
We will be using our time at the Connections Online Users Roundtable getting your feedback on what you need, and hearing best practice presentations. We will update you to new functionality on Version 4.1.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Connections Online Version 4.1
Our new version 4.1 is out of beta and in full production. You can access the new site with this link: https://col.connectionsonline.net
Please have your Users use the new URL (link above). The beta version will still be accessible but will be used by our development team to test upcoming features. The 4.1 (COL URL) will use your production database (so you may have users on col.connectionsonline.net, beta.connectionsonline.net, and my.connectionsonline.net). We would like all users to use the URL https://col.connectionsonline.net and if you need (or want) to use 4.0 for any reason, you will see a link at the bottom of the page to open 4.0. We invite you to attend a scheduled 4.1 webinar (see webinar registration below). You will see that we have improved the efficiency of entering data by reducing the number of clicks to create and update the information in Connections as well as other improvements.
Note: Although we would like people to start using Version 4.1, Version 4.0 will continue to be available for use. There is a link at the bottom of the Connections page where you can switch to the other version.

Setting Security for Departments (Site Administrators have security to do this)
Creating Security Groups: Security for Departments can be customized so select people from the specific department can update the information on the department page. To do this, create a department security group. Click the add button and create a group. Click Insert.
Once the security group is created, click the expand arrow to the left of the group name and click Add User to add employees to the security group. Select an employee from the list and click Insert.
Customizing a Tab or Page’s Security: To customize a department tab’s security, open the select department tab, and select the security lock in the upper right side of the page. The security page will open – adjust security for the page; i.e., add the department security group to each security module on the page and check the desired security settings (Read, Update, Delete, Delegate). For example, create the security group “Information Technology” and add the individuals to the security group that will be able to edit the IT department Tab. Next, open the Information Technology Department Connection. At the top right of the page, click the lock icon and “add” the security group “Information Technology” for each module’s security desired (i.e. main page, critical measures, projects, dialogs).
Scroll down the page to the Critical Measures module, add the “Information Technology” security group and check the security the group is to have (Create, Read, Update, Delete, Delegate). Repeat for the Projects module and the Dialog module.
Please note: Click the Propagate icon (next to the Add icon) after you add or change security for each module on this security page – click the SECOND radial and propagate.
Tips for the Month
Undelete Symbol: Restoring Deleted Items (Version 4.1) This function has been added for all Users (previously only Administrators were able to undelete – so if the User has security to delete, that User will now have the security to undelete.)
Click this symbol, found at the upper right of the page, and you will open an “Undelete” page. Deleted items will be listed on this page. Roll over the item you want to undelete and click on the undelete symbol to the left of the item. Navigate back to the original page and the item will be restored.
Browse Button Removed
The browse button has been removed to comply with “world standards for internet browsers”. The standard is that a “browse button” in a web application is a security risk. All other browsers but IE do not allow for any functionality for the browse button (Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome, etc.) We are meeting those standards now with version 4.1. All related links still work as they did before – and we recommend that all customers use web folders to host the files that they want COL to link to.
Scope and Evaluation Criteria Boxes
Per Users’ request, we have changed the Scope and Evaluation Criteria boxes in 4.1 to function as they did in 4.0. The feature uses standard web editing functionality.
Basic Role Percentages
Prior to this change, if the user changed percentages for a Basic Role item, then wanted to print an older dialog, the NEWLY changed Basic Role Percentages appeared. The reporting has changed so that if you print an older report, you will see the “correct” Basic Role percentages for that specific dialog report.
