Connections lets you import and export data on supported pages using the Import and Export links in the app header. This article uses Tasks as an example. The process is similar on other supported pages, though the columns and required fields may differ.
File formats: Exports download as Excel (.xlsx) files. Imports accept CSV (.csv) files only. To import an exported file, save it as a CSV first.
Export data
- Open Tasks, or another page that supports exporting.
- Select Export in the app header.
- Open the downloaded
.xlsxfile in Excel or another spreadsheet application.
Prepare a file for import
Organize your data in a spreadsheet with a header row identifying each column. Make sure it includes the required fields for the page you’re importing into.
If you’re starting with an exported Connections file:
- Open the
.xlsxfile in your spreadsheet application. - Add or edit your data.
- Use Save As, Download, or Export to save the sheet as a CSV (
.csv) file.
Changing the filename extension from .xlsx to .csv does not convert the file. Use your spreadsheet application’s CSV option.
Import data with Flatfile
- Open Tasks, or the supported page you want to import into.
- Select Import in the app header to open Flatfile.
- Upload your
.csvfile. - Follow the prompts to match your file’s columns to the available Connections fields.
- Review any validation messages and correct missing or invalid values.
- Complete the import using the prompts in Flatfile.
For Tasks, match your columns to the available Task fields and provide any fields marked as required. Other supported pages follow the same process with their own fields and requirements.
Troubleshooting
- Your file won’t upload: Confirm it’s saved as
.csv. Excel (.xlsx) files aren’t supported for import. - A column isn’t matched: Review the column mapping in Flatfile and select the appropriate Connections field.
- Rows have validation errors: Check the highlighted values and provide any missing required information before completing the import.
